This time we took our Scan Truck Spaceship all the way to the moon with Apple TV’s brand new series “For All Mankind”. This alternative-history series explores “What if Soviet Union succeeded in the first manned Moon landing and space race never ended”. Recreating the surface of the Moon presented an interesting challenge for the visual effects team. LIDAR scanning and lots of photogrammetry was needed to provide set extensions and digital doubles. Our mobile 3D scanning studio was a perfect fit on the Sony Pictures Studios lot. We landed next to the stage and worked closely with Method Studios on providing 3D scans of Joel Kinnaman, Michael Dorman, Jodi Balfour as well as other cast members and even Soviet and US space suits. Digital Humans and Virtual Production – Event Recap
The advancements in digital technology are blurring the lines between what’s real and what’s virtual. This transition is proving to have incredible applications especially in the world of entertainment, where the need for reduced costs and while still providing high end results is at an all time high. Being able to recreate environments, people, and performances through the use of virtual production tools is becoming much easier, but still raising many questions in the minds of doubters.
ICVR & The Scan Truck teamed up to organize a panel of the industry leaders who shared their opinions on the direction of digital technology & the wave of digital humans. Check out the amazing coverage of the event in the video below brought to you by the amazing HipHopMD

The Call of the Wild!
The Call of the Wild was an unforgettable adventure! We deployed our mobile 3D scan studio – The Scan Truck on location over a period of two months. We had a great time working with legendary Harrison Ford, Karen Gillan, Dan Stevens and others. This production was a real endurance test for our hardware because of the large volume of scans and challenging weather conditions. Our rig performed flawlessly! We cannot wait to see this film on a big screen in February 2020!
Terminator Dark Fate
The iconic Terminator cast took us back to our childhood on this run! Such an honor to create with everyone involved on this wild production that pushed the envelope of what is possible each day.
Star Trek Journey
Legendary Captain Picard came aboard OUR Spaceship and showed us the ropes on intergalactic travel! We had a blast beaming up the incredible cast and creating history with the original Star Trek crew, with the Borgs and all! We are excited to see this series come together launching in January 2020.
A Very Brady Renovation
We were invited to be a part of Brady Bunch history! HGTV called The Scan Truck to restore the broken parts of the famous Brady horse sculpture. We met up with Christopher Knight and the Property Brothers on location at the newly renovated Brady Bunch house. The high fidelity 3D scan was captured using our mobile photogrammetry studio. After the digital restoration was complete, we were able to 3D print the missing parts with our friends at There You Have it 3D. After the final assembly and finishing the horse statue was ready to return home to the iconic Brady Bunch house!
The Laundromat!
Another incredible adventure on-board The Scan Truck! This time we got to 3D scan the legend himself – Gary Oldman. We cannot wait for the release of The Laundromat!
Sculpture of Sudan Archives
The Scan Truck was called in to bring another vision to life! Sudan Archives came to us with a beautiful vision of herself as a bronze sculpture for her new album cover. We 3D scanned her in a variety of statuesque poses. When we saw the final result we were blown away!
Gettin’ Jiggy with Will Smith!
Recently The Scan Truck had an immense pleasure working with Will Smith and his team at Westbrook Media. Knowing the creative and fun-loving nature of Will Smith we could not wait to see what kind of content he will put out using our 3D scans. Will and his team did not disappoint! His campaign with ASICS Onitsuka Tiger takes us on a hallucinogenic trip around the world from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Great Pyramids. Check out the video below!
Hyper Realistic Digital Avatar
Here’s a glimpse of what it takes to create a digital double! We’ve scanned a library of over 130 facial poses that allowed us to create a realistic facial animation including the micro expressions! This character can be animated and driven real time in the Unreal Engine. The Scan Truck got the awesome opportunity to work with ICVR and Jason L White to create this experience.
We will be showing off the many possible applications of this technology at the upcoming SIGGRAPH 2019. Come find us at the booth 647 and 649!
