3D Scanning for Film, TV & VFX

Digital doubles, props, costumes, creatures, and sets, captured on location by the mobile studio behind Dune: Part Two, Superman, and 300+ productions.

The Scan Truck provides mobile 3D scanning for film, television, and VFX production. Our 160-camera cross-polarized photogrammetry rig, long-range LiDAR, and blue-light laser scanners come to your set or stage, capturing principal talent, hero props, costumes, creatures, and environments as production-ready 3D assets. Everything delivers with clean topology, UVs, and PBR textures, aligned to your VFX vendor’s pipeline. Based in Los Angeles, scanning on location nationwide.

Digital Doubles & Talent Scanning

We scan principal cast, stunt performers, and background talent in minutes: full-body photogrammetry, facial expression sets, and costume capture through our 160-camera cross-polarized rig. For Dune: Part Two, we captured Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet on location; for Superman, we digitized the film’s mechanical characters, solving reflective surfaces and articulating joints. Scans deliver as hero-level meshes and texture maps ready for your team’s retopology, rigging, and look-development workflows.

Costumes & Creatures

Practical creature builds, mechanical characters, makeup and prosthetic effects, and costume continuity, captured by combining cross-polarized photogrammetry for true color and texture with blue-light laser scanning for dimensional accuracy down to 25 microns. The two passes merge into one asset that is both photoreal and metrically exact. We scanned the robot for Superman and hero costumes for The Boys, and for Hulu’s Control Freak we dual-captured the practical monster and delivered a fully retopologized, rigged asset straight into the VFX pipeline for look-dev, animation, and compositing. Every asset ships with clean geometry, UVs, and calibrated PBR texture sets.

Hero Props, Weapons & Vehicles

Hero props, weapons, vehicles, and set dressing captured for feature film and episodic VFX. We resolve exact geometry with our blue-light laser scanner and merge it with color from a cross-polarized photogrammetry pass, so reflective, dark, and intricate surfaces hold up on a hero close-up. Take delivery as high-poly source geometry for look-development, or as a lightweight retopo for real-time and virtual production, every asset with clean UVs and calibrated PBR textures matched to your VFX vendor’s spec.

Sets, Locations & Environments

Long-range LiDAR and handheld photogrammetry capture full sets, stages, and real-world locations as accurate, measurable point clouds and textured meshes, the foundation for set extension, digital environment reconstruction, virtual production, and post-wrap reference. Scanning happens between setups with minimal disruption to the shooting day, and data delivers aligned and production-ready for your environment and layout teams.
